Knights 'n Kids Contests

March Madness

When one hears “March Madness” they immediately correlate that with basketball and the NCAA championships.  Well, that’s not the only basketball tournament that takes place in March.  Several of our school children advanced to the Regional and District levels of the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.  All contestants in the competition did us proud.  Win or lose they represented the parish well doing their best, which is all anyone can ask.  We thank Brother Knight Tim Davidson, Athletic Director for St. John the Evangelist School, for helping organize the event and encouraging team members to participate.  Watch the Sunday bulletin for more details about the event.

The “madness” continued with three other events during March:   The  Annual Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest, Spelling Bee, and Essay Contest were highlights of activities that the Knights hosted for the school children.  These are National events, so the final chapter hasn’t been written yet as the finalists are selected.

Richard Zych is the Knights liaison with the school and organizer of all these events.  This year’s participation was the best to date.  The Knights are happy to sponsor these events, providing an opportunity for the students to learn valuable skills that can stay with them for the rest of their lives.  A special thanks go to Mrs. Carol Meranda for her hard work and support as well as to the parents, students and Brother Knights that helped out on event days or behind the scenes. The Knights are proud to be part of St. John School’s activity.
