Two Old Christmas Traditions

When you go shopping on or after Black Friday, keep in mind our traditional Knights and Ladies Auxiliary Christmas giving programs.

Giving Tree

Giving Tree

December 2nd we kick off  the Annual Giving Tree tradition here at St. John’s.   Trees will be setup in the church narthex on Friday, November 30th.  To participate in this drive, select one or more tags from the tree, purchase an appropriate gift ($10 – $15 value) and return it to church by December 16.

The gifts should be UNWRAPPED and placed in a gift bag. The Knights and Ladies, in conjunction with our church and community partner organizations, will distribute the gifts to needy children and seniors in our community. Mary’s Millennium Council #12801, with your help, donated more than 3,000 gifts last Christmas.

Pajamarama

At our Annual Joint Christmas Party, for the last several years, rather than bringing grab bag gifts, the Ladies Auxiliary has brought pajamas to be donated to the Elgin Women’s Crisis Center.  This tradition will continue on December 19th.

New Knights Tradition

Getting inspiration from the Ladies Auxiliary we announced a new tradition of donating items to help veterans at our Annual Christmas Party.  Louis Neri, who transferred into our council this year,  shared a list of items that are in need at the present time.   We suggest purchasing items from the following list, especially items in red which are in short supply.

Please bring your items to the Christmas party.  They don’t need to be wrapped.
