Holiday Social Recap

The Knights and Ladies Auxiliary held their annual joint Christmas Social on December 19th.  Since charity is one of the four pillars of the Knights of Columbus, the Knights and Ladies collected pajamas and various home goods for the Women’s Crisis Center and Veterans who are in need of support.   The Ladies provided refreshments for the evening.

Following the dinner portion of the evening, there were several presentations made.  Bob Fallon, District Deputy, was on hand to present a very prestigious award to Bill Henderson.   He was selected as Knight of the Month (October, 2018) by the Illinois State Council Knights of Columbus.   To put this in perspective, there are over 73,000 Knights in the state of Illinois.

Bill was recognized for his many contributions to the Knights and the church, including Race Director for our 5k Knights Challenge, usher, minister of communion, and many other contributions.   Congratulations Bill on this well-deserved recognition from the state.  Speaking of the 5k, Deputy Grand Knight Gary Pappin presented the council with a plaque received from Hanover Township, for our continued support of Hanover Township Food Pantry via the 5k and other activities throughout the year.

Also on hand was our Field Agent, Larry Szmurlo, who retired at the end of 2018.   He faithfully served our council for more than ten years.   We presented him with a crucifix in appreciation for his service to our council.  Another very special presentation was to one of our own Knights, Tommy Davidson.  Tommy is currently in the seminary beginning his studies to become a priest.  The council supports a seminarian each year and we were especially honored to be presenting a monetary gift to Tommy to defray his costs.   We will keep him and his father, Tim (who is studying to become a deacon), in our prayers as they begin this faith journey.

Finally, Grand Knight Frank Esposito and President Joni Lorkowski presented Christmas gifts to Fathers Nate and Gregg as well as the custodial staff of St. Johns.   We are very grateful for the support the Knights and Ladies get from the parish.
