Honoring Our Veterans

News Comments Off on Honoring Our Veterans

Since its beginnings, the Knights of Columbus has supported active military personnel and our veterans.

Did you know that the Knights of Columbus began its social service to soldiers in 1916?  During World War I, the Knights of Columbus built and operated KC Huts in training camps throughout the United States and behind the lines in Western Europe, all bearing the motto “Everybody Welcome, Everything Free.” There, soldiers of every faith found a haven during their service to their country.

The support that began nearly a century ago continues well into the present. Countless care packages have been sent to troops stationed in the Middle East and elsewhere. In Places like Iraq and Afghanistan, the Knights of Columbus has sent numerous supplies and goods. One of our Knights, Louis Neri, is coordinating collection of needed items for  MSHV Veterans Wishlist Flyer (click to open PDF).

We’d welcome parishioners support as well.  We are working out details with the parish, but in the meantime, contact us if you would like to donate, and we can arrange to pick up your donations.

A Prayer for Veterans Day

Father, we could never thank our military men and women enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people. Yet today we lift up our voices to express gratefulness and honor to these military troops both from the past and present. Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus.  Amen.
