Tis The Season of Giving

Annual Giving Tree

Now Through December 20th

Every year at Thanksgiving time, we kickoff our Annual Giving Tree event in conjunction with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Normally, we’d place two Christmas trees, filled with gift tags, in the narthex.  Parishioners would select one or more tags from the trees and then go shopping for age-appropriate toys for the boy or girl they selected.  Gifts were then returned to the trees before Christmas, and the Knights of Columbus would assist Hanover Township staff with the annual Holiday Program toy distribution.

Many families in Hanover Township are in need of assistance this year.  More than 500 families participated in the program last year and more than 1300 toys were distributed. This year we anticipate the demand will be even higher due to the pandemic. Without programs like this, Christmas might be pretty bleak for children of these families.  We’ve been working with the township to simplify the process and keep everyone safe.

Return Toys to Table in Narthex

Due to current restrictions, which prevent congregating in the narthex, we won’t be putting up Christmas trees filled with tags.  Instead, you decide what age group, Boys and Girls (ages 1-13), you want to purchase your gifts for.   Purchase one or more toys (minimum value $10-$15) and return the unwrapped toys to the parish.  They can be brought to mass or dropped off at the Parish Office during normal business hours.  We will isolate the gifts for a period of time, and then the township will pick them up.

So that you can take advantage of Black Friday and other deals, we are  launching the program earlier than usual.  We also realize that some people may not wish to purchase toys, but would still like to participate.   Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Parish Office (cash, gift cards, or check payable to Mary’s Millennium Knights of Columbus Council #12801) or you can use our secure online donation site (https://kofc12801.square.site/giving-tree) using a credit card or Google Pay.
