Dropping off Donations at MSHV
Daily Herald Article

Since its beginnings, the Knights of Columbus has supported active military personnel and our veterans.  This Thanksgiving, Mary’s Millennium Knights of Columbus Council #12801 of Streamwood, IL, continued that tradition by hosting a fundraiser for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

The Knights support the shelter throughout the year, and normally collect household items at their Christmas party, instead of buying gifts for each other.   Due to the pandemic, the annual party would not be held, therefore, the Knights appealed to their parish, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Streamwood, to fill the void.   The parish responded overwhelming donating cash, gift cards, and household items totaling more than $5000, including two truckloads of new household items.

John Dixon, Veteran Fulfillment Manager Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans said “We are so thankful for all of the donations and generosity of the Knights of Columbus. It is assuring to know that the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans has such amazing support. “

The two deliveries were made to the shelter before Thanksgiving.  We learned that due to the donations, MSHV was able to include $100 in food gift cards to each veteran visiting the shelter prior to Thanksgiving, in addition to their requested household items.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all our donors who made this fundraising event a success.   We owe our veterans a huge thank you for their service.  It warms our heart to see this overwhelming response from our parish.
