Knights Challenge 5K 2014

Congratulations to all Winners & Thank You to All

On October 4th, we held our first annual Knights Challenge 5K Race and 1M Walk to benefit the Hanover Township Food Pantry.  We had 75 participants, despite the 40 degree weather with snow flurries.  Thank you to all that helped make this event a success.  We had set a goal of 100 participants when we began planning this event.  Since this was our first race, and the weather didn’t cooperate, it was gratifying to see so many people turn out to help us support this worthwhile cause.

Race Director, Jim KaltingerReflections on First Annual Knights Challenge
5K Race / 1M Walk

With the race underway, Jim Kaltinger, Race Director, is shown here responding to Streamwood Examiner reporter with his thoughts on this year’s event and what next year might bring.   He hopes that this will be an annual event, and that next year will have an even bigger turnout (which translates into more money for the Hanover Township Food Pantry).

Several months ago, Jim approached Mary’s Millennium Council with his idea about conducting a 5K race.  As an avid runner, he knew something about what was involved, but that challenge didn’t stop him from suggesting we sponsor an event.  The council approved the idea overwhelmingly and we embarked on a journey which culminated today with a successful event.

Jim hopes to be able to run in the race next year, something he couldn’t do this time due to Race Director duties.

The Knights of Columbus, Mary’s Millennium Council in particular, is a great place for a man to share his dreams and together with fellow Knights, Ladies, members of the parish and community, accomplish great things for others in the community.

 And The Winners Are …

Participants (runners / walkers) were broken down into age brackets.  Top three male and females in each bracket were awarded medals.  Overall male and female contestants received special awards.  All participants  received a technical style T-shirt.

The holiday season is fast approaching, really evident with today’s snow flurries, and there are many families in our area that could use some extra assistance to make the holidays happy.  That is where we, in conjunction with Hanover Township hope to make a difference.

By YOUR support of our race today, your too have helped in this worthy cause.  For that we will be forever grateful.  We hope that you enjoyed the time you spent with us today and that you will join us next year for the Second Annual Knights Challenge 5K.   Be sure to follow Knights Challenge 5K on Facebook so that you’ll learn about our event once we begin our planning.
